The plan for the arrival of the World Cup Trophy to Timor Leste was conveyed by the Secretary General of the Football Federation of Timor Leste (FFTL) Gregorio Correia at the Mercure Hotel, Cikini, Jakarta, Monday (23/5).
Gregorio came to Jakarta to invite one of the Timorese football legends Fary Djemi Francis. When this country was still part of the Republic of Indonesia, together with Dwi Pranayudha, Fary was a goalkeeper legend who had strengthened East Timor from the 1986 Suratin Cup, Persedil, Pre PON, Bank Suma. His skill in guarding the goal of the former 27th province of Indonesia has become the fondest memory for Timor Leste to this day. This is one of the reasons for the Football Federation of Timor Leste to invite him to enliven the Qatar 2022 World Cup series of parties.
“Yes, that’s right, Mr. Fary, received a special invitation from the Secretary General of the Timor Leste Football Federation. Gregorio Correia as Secretary General of FFTL last night met Pak Fary directly and conveyed directly the agenda for welcoming the World Cup Trophy in Dili,” said Frans Watu Public Relations of IFF and Chair of the NTT All Star Jakarta Association.
“I thank you for Mr. Fary’s welcome, we have considered him like an older brother, he was an extraordinary former goalkeeper at that time. I came to meet him to convey a special invitation to attend the World Cup Trophy event which will visit Timor Leste on 11 June. This is a very meaningful meal, this is a banquet of friendship and brotherhood that we can’t afford to miss.” said Gregorio, who had studied at the Lalian Seminary, Belu, NTT.
Gregorio continued, FIFA will bring the World Cup Trophy with a special plane and will land at Nicolau Lobato International Airport, Comoro on 10 June 2022. Furthermore, the trophy will be stored at the Timor Leste Football Federation (FFTL) Yogyakarta and will then be paraded around Dili, before brought to Qatar.
On that occasion, Fary Djemi Francis, who is currently the President Commissioner of ASABRI, appreciated the invitation from the Secretary General of the Timor Leste Football Federation. Later on that occasion, I as the owner of Bintang Timur Academy (BeTA) Atambua, will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Bintang Timur football academy, Atambua and the Football Federation of Timor Leste (FFTL),” said Fary when meeting the Secretary General of FFTL accompanied by Dwi Pranayudha. his relative who is also the goalkeeping coach of BeTA Atambua FC.
The Chairman of Indonesia Football For Ever (IFF) continued, the collaboration between BeTA Atambua and FFTL includes the development of early childhood players including the U-16 early age frandly match in Dili.
Bintang Timur, Atambua FC, his club is currently preparing for the Eltari Memorial Cup Tournament (League 3 round NTT). The club, which consists of BeTA Academy dropouts, has appointed Maman Suryaman as Head Couch in facing the NTT League 3 round which will be held this year.
